Bob Erskine VIEW PROFILE

Robert Alden Erskine, 72, died December 16, 2023 in Silver Spring, MD. The cause was brain cancer. Bob was an artist and loving husband and father. He was known for his kindness, friendly nature, and ability to make people laugh. Born in Sunnyside, Wash., he grew up hiking and fishing, and in 1975 walked the Pacific Crest Trail, 2,600 miles from Mexico to Canada with his friend Clark Casebolt. He later worked as an excavation supervisor on Bronze Age and Neolithic archaeological sites in Israel and Jordan from 1976 to 1987. He attended art school and worked the rest of his life as a painter, cartoonist, and printmaker.

He met Renee Schoof in Seattle, and they were married in 1988. They lived in New York and Beijing before moving to Silver Spring in 2000 with their daughters, Mary Claire and Ellena Erskine. He taught his daughters about art, how to build and fix things, and to value their own creative work. His funeral will be at 3 p.m. January 13 at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, Washington, DC.

Oh my.....sad to hear. What an interesting life Bob had. Sadly, most of us never knew about his life after Sunnyside. There are people that come to mind from our past that we remember. Before I moved away in 9th grade, I remember the "sock hops" in the gym, or the cafeteria. .Many of the guys would come, but never asked us girls to dance. They'd call it "ladies choice" or something similar.  Guess who I'd drag out on to the dance floor???.....quiet Bob. He never said much, but he never said No!!! Bob will be remembered. He had a good life. Kathy Harper Sandell

From tome to time, I would remember Bob and wonder where he was at and what he might be doing. I got a glimpse today with this news.  I can not remember ever seeing him after graduation. Bob was pretty witty and I thought that he had a great sense of humor. When I retell jpkes that I heard Bob tell, I remember him as if were yesrerday. I would like to give Allen Walker and any other Classmates that are or were involved with developing and maintaining this website " A SHOUT OUT! THANK YOU ". My dear wife of almost 50 years passed away 3 years ago. My love and appreciation for her continues to grow. She was in the Class of 971, Valerie Sowers. Also, my endearment and appreciation for my classmates continues to grow with time. So dear classmate inloving memory of Bob Erskine, I will give you all some unsolicited advice. Please keep on having birthdays! And for those of you that are married keep on having anniversaries.
